Two grants of note
So, I’m still combing through all the e-mail and print philanthropy news that accumulated while I was on maternity leave and I noticed these two grants that pertain to our communities:
First, the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) received the coveted Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, $1.5 million that BRAC will use as a challenge grant through BRAC USA to raise $3 million for its microfinance program in Sudan. Sounds like a worthy cause to me!
Second, New Routes to Community Health gave away $1.8 million to public health campaigns focused on immigrant communities across the U.S. Take a look at some of their projects - really interesting!

Thank you for mentioning New Routes. Our project in Philadelphia is engaging Vietnamese and Laotion seniors in making media that will promote health in their communities. We’re hoping the New Routes model of media makers partnering with community groups, especially immigrant groups, to make media will be imitated by many. Media in the hands of the people is power in the hands of the people!
Thanks, Gale! New Routes sounds like a great project and we look forward to hearing more about it.
