Tata Gift to Cornell
December 29, 2008

Ratan Tata
I’m still catching up on philanthropy news that came out while I was on maternity leave earlier this fall, and wanted to note this gift to Cornell University in October by Indian industrialist (and Cornell alum) Ratan Tata. The $50 million gift will be used to recruit Indian students to campus and to support joint research projects in agriculture and nutrition.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy article announcing the grant focuses on the rise in funding for international students and programs at colleges and universities given our globalizing world. It’s great to see such a generous gift and such a prominent South Asian in the news.
