MLK Day Volunteer Opportunities
January 12, 2009
Back in December, I had noted that President-Elect Obama is calling for a National Day of Service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 19, 2009. Well, the NYTimes Caucus blog notes that the Presidential Inaugural Committee has just made it a lot easier to find places to volunteer next Monday! Just go to USAService.org and find volunteer activities in your own backyard through the President-Elect’s Renew America Together initiative.
If you’re in DC, South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) is hosting a volunteer activity that day – here’s the info:
| Volunteer with SAALT and Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project (DVRP) for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (January 19) As part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, come out and help educate the South Asian community in Washington, DC about important issues such as domestic violence. Volunteers will reach out and visit local South Asian businesses to inform them about domestic violence and available resources such as DVRP. If you are interested in volunteering, please email saalt@saalt.org with the subject line “MLK Day of Service” by 6 pm (EST) on Wednesday, January 14th.
