I hope that the next Indira Gandhi prize goes to an Indian and that Bill Gates’ work inspires some large-scale philanthropy among the newly wealthy class in India. As we’ve written about here before, corruption is a huge deterrent to private philanthropy because it erodes trust in the nonprofit, in government, in workers. That problem’s got to improve before we’ll see more giving in India, in my opinion.
