Weekend Links: Bikram Singh and Muhammad Yunus
Here are two links that we’re reading this weekend:
Nilima, a new friend of SAPP, posted about a speech she attended by Muhammad Yunus at NextBillion. Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank, discussed social businesses or market-based solutions to the world’s challenges and global poverty. Go to the site to comment about your opinions on mixing business and philanthropy…
The NY Times had a fascinating profile of Bikram Singh, a Punjabi-American public interest lawyer who is also a rising Bhangra/hip-hop star. Singh volunteers his time to represent South Asian clients in need of low-cost legal services. He is a member of the Community Legal Resource Network and does work “through Volunteer Lawyer for a Day, a state-financed program that provides people in housing court with legal aid”. Here’s his bhangra hip-hop site!
