I was thrilled to read about the creation of a new “Centre for South Asian Engagement” at the University of Toronto-Mississauga, the result of a wonderful $2-million gift from entrepreneur Vasu Chanchlani to U of T’s Boundless Campaign. Here are a few details:
Entrepreneur and philanthropist Vasu Chanchlani has made a visionary gift of $2 million to create the Centre for South Asian Engagement, which will engage our local South Asian diaspora to advance Canada’s strategic interests in a changing world. Funds will support more student exchanges and more interdisciplinary research in South Asian studies, as well as a lecture series that will feature South Asian scholars, artists and public figures.
Combined with the launch of U of T’s new India Innovation Institute last year and the ongoing activities of the U of T Centre for South Asian Studies, it feels like a very exciting time for South Asian issues here at U of T! As we’ve noted before, Mr. Chanchlani has been at the forefront of Indo-Canadian philanthropy, particularly to educational institutions, and this gift really highlights his philanthropic leadership. Check out more about him at the Chanchlani Foundation.
