International giving suffers with economic downturn

Foundation Center has a disturbing article about the downturn in giving for international causes because (a) donors have less cash to give, and (b) donors are focusing more on immediate needs here at home.   The article cites the difficulties faced by Mercy Corps and Medical Teams International in particular.

Earlier, I wrote about my family’s year-end giving plans, which did include a bit more for the home front (particularly the local food bank).  I wonder if some of you did the same thing?
