Humanitarian relief efforts in Pakistan

July 16, 2009

Check out this post by Anil Kalhan at SAJA Forum earlier this month, which ends with some interesting fundraising appeals going on right now.  Anil reminds us that there are up to 2.5 million “internally displaced persons” in Pakistan, many of them children, who are fleeing the violence in Pakistan’s northwest frontier.  About 20% of the IDPs are in poorly maintained, often dangerous, government refugee camps.  Check out the article for some in-depth quotes and coverage from The Lancet and WHO representatives.

Here’s the key passage for our philanthropic purposes – please explore these giving opportunities and let us know if you are aware of any others:

Action for a Progressive Pakistan has partnered with the SINGH Foundation to raise money to support the humanitarian relief efforts for IDPs fleeing the conflict. Over at the blog All Things Pakistan, readers have raised approximately $8400 to support IDP relief activities by the Edhi Foundation and UNHCR. A list of other fundraising appeals may be found here.
