Event with Amartya Sen in Chicago!

The Chicago Global Donors Network asked SAPP to make the following announcement:

The Chicago Global Donors Network invites you to register for a private lunch and book signing with the distinguished Amartya Sen. The event will be held on April 22nd from 11:30am-2:00pm at the offices of Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago.  The suggested donation for attendance is $250-$500.

Amartya Sen, called the “Mother Teresa of economics” and the “economist of the poor and philosopher of empowerment,” is a distinguished economist-philosopher who won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998 for his work on welfare economics. He is known for his research on famine, human development theory, welfare economics, the underlying mechanisms of poverty, gender inequality, and political liberalism. He is currently a professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University and a trustee of Economists for Peace and Security. Sen’s books have been translated into more than thirty languages and as of 2009 he had received over 80 honorary doctorates.

Dr. Sen will discuss where he believes donors should be focusing their philanthropy in order to make the greatest impact on poverty alleviation.
