SAPP achieves nonprofit status! Celebrate with us by Giving Back Today – on the first ever #Giving Tuesday

November 27, 2012

We are excited to share with our members and supporters that the South Asian Philanthropy Project is now officially a nonprofit organization, having recently achieved 501(c)(3) status – which means SAPP has been recognized by the IRS as being tax-exempt by virtue of its charitable programs. (Learn more.)

After several years of operating as a source of information and resources via solely this blog site, SAPP is positioned to expand its work to engage our community in giving back even more.

So, today, on the first ever #Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving, we officially launch our first fundraising campaign.  It’s a day to celebrate a culture of giving rather than a culture of getting. Communities, charities, businesses and individuals are coming together to transform the way we think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Join us and help Get out the Give!

We invite you to join us in contributing any amount to support the work of SAPP as we grow to conduct research, host events and educational sessions, provide consulting services and upgrade our communications platforms.

The South Asian Philanthropy Project (SAPP) is a forum that inspires South Asian Americans to become more involved in philanthropy and volunteering.  With more than 400 blog and Facebook posts, conversations, and online forums with guest writers and dozens of  in-person and electronic interviews with South Asian donors, volunteers and board members, SAPP creates a network of resources and  stimulates dialogue around charitable giving and philanthropic leadership among South Asians in the diaspora. It is our hope that this initiative will not only highlight but empower South Asians to donate resources, volunteer, and serve on nonprofit boards.  We envision working with private, corporate and community foundations as well as charities to offer education, donor outreach and services, as well as grantmaking opportunities for civically-engaged South Asians.

As a newly formed nonprofit, SAPP is fundraising to expand its operations and activities in cities around the country. Please join us in celebrating and elevating the philanthropic and volunteer efforts of South Asian Americans.

Our goal over the next month is to raise $1,500.  Will you help us get there by making a contribution today?

For more information on SAPP and how to get involved please browse our website.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful and giving holiday season!

Warmly,
The SAPP Team

Congratulations to the SAPP team on this milestone! I’d love to make a donation but haven’t seen a button where I can donate online. Please let me know how I can go about contributing.
